Alpha Arbutin

Arbutin; It is a type of glycoside, a natural compound formed from glucose molecules found in plants. It is mainly extracted from the 'blueberry' plant in the 'Arctostaphylos' genus, among many other medicinal plants in the 'Ericaceae' family. When applied locally, it inhibits the Tyrosinase enzyme and prevents melanin formation. Arbutin is therefore used as a skin lightening agent. It is found in very small amounts in wheat, pear skin and some other foods. Arbutin is a naturally occurring derivative of Hydroquinone. It is used as an alternative to hydroquinone, as it provides its skin lightening effect without any risk. Alpha-Arbutin is frequently used in the cosmetic industry as a safer alternative to Hydroquinone. It gives good results in lightening and brightening the skin.
